Gate 29, Saying Yes – The Abysmal
August 17 – 22
This Solar Transit brings the potential for infinite energy to commit to things.
In the I’Ching, this is called The Abysmal – the deep, deep, deep waters. There is a powerful force that fuels this process of discovery and the cycle that it commits to.
And, so often, the mind wants to say yes – yes to a new cycle of experience, a new relationship, a new possibility.
Saying yes is a constant affirmation of life by committing your energy to something or someone new and seeing it through to its natural conclusion.
It can be a true journey of discovery.
But grounding this transit is Gate 30, the Gate of Recognition of Feelings. Here we meet the longing of the heart – desire, passion, hope, expectation.
We can want something deeply and still not get the outcome we imagined.
The invitation is to feel the desire without becoming attached to the outcome.
In every hero(ine)’s journey, just when success is on the horizon, the nemesis appears.
Will you persevere or will you flee?
Or, can you allow the challenges to teach you something?
Trusting in the flow of life can be the ultimate journey of self-discovery.
Similar to a dark night of the soul, when life seems to engulf you in confusion and you begin to give up hope … will you look inward and see the meaning of the challenges you face?
Or, will you quit?
I have an intimate relationship with this gate. I have this energy twice in my Human Design (in Pluto).
Confession: I was a slave to Saying YES.
I can overcommit on too many occasions. My mind wants to say yes to so many things.
You could say I have the potential to be a super slave.
So, looking back at my life, I see that I’d say yes and when things would get to be too much, I would jump out before the commitment reached its natural conclusion.
I can see how easily I could get stuck in a loop of repeating the same patterns and traumas by saying yes, when my truth was really no.
Prosperity is linked to clear commitments.
For me, my lesson is to make the right commitment at the right time by following my inner truth.
When I say YES to others, I want to be saying YES to myself, too.
And perhaps this is the deeper invitation of this transit:
Can I say YES to the experience without needing to know the outcome?
Can I allow myself to feel the longing without letting desire make the decision?
Have you noticed patterns of trauma or difficulties that seem to repeat themselves in your life?
If so, notice what you’re saying yes to in life – and whether that yes is correct for you or not.
Follow your inner truth by honoring your personal Strategy and Authority.
When you do, you have the potential to witness the pure magic of the 29th Gate.

I am a Human Design teacher, guide, and survivor whose path to purpose was forged through profound transformation. In 2012, a Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis shattered the life I knew—and became the unexpected beginning of a deeper awakening.
